It wasnarrated that Ibn 'Umar said:
"We were with the Messenger ofAllah (ﷺ) on one of his campaigns. He passed by some people andsaid: 'Who are these people?' They said: 'We are Muslims.'There was awoman putting wood in her oven, and a son of hers waswith her. Whenthe flames got higher, she moved him away. She came tothe Prophet(ﷺ) and said: 'Are you the Messenger of Allah?' Hesaid: 'Yes.' Shesaid: 'May my father and mother be ransomedfor you. Is not Allah theMost Merciful of those who show mercy?'He said: 'Yes indeed.' Shesaid: 'Is not Allah more Mercifulthan a mother to her child?' Hesaid: 'Yes indeed.' She said:'A mother would not throw her child intothe fire.' The Messengerof Allah (ﷺ) lowered his head and wept.Then he looked up at herand said: 'Allah does not punish any of Hisslaves except those whoare defiant and rebellious, who rebel againstAllah and refuse tosay: La ilaha illallah.'"
