Halmstad, the capital of Halland County, is a coastal town in southwestern Sweden. Previously part of Denmark, the city was founded back in the 14th century. It became a part of Sweden in 1645, when the county of Halland came under Swedish control.
Aside from being a port town, Halmstad is famous for Halmstad University, industry, and tourism. The city has a rich history, being a part of two different European countries. It was also the city where the Union King of the Kalmar Union, which combined Sweden, Norway, and Denmark, was chosen. It is this significance that later led Sweden and Denmark to fight over the territory, with Sweden defeating Denmark in 1676 and finally claiming Halland County as its own.
Halmstad is a city where modern architecture exists alongside ancient structures. You can find perfectly preserved peasant cottages dating back centuries. Other popular spots include the city’s 14th century Gothic church and a Renaissance castle. In contrast to this, the city is also home to many industries, such as engineering, brewing, timber, and textile manufacturing. Halmstad represents Sweden with deep historical roots, a bustling economy, and a lively populace.

While Stockholm has a higher concentration of Muslims, primarily due to the influx of migrants, the rest of the country has a Muslim minority that is in the single digits. Meaning that the Muslim community in Halmstad amounts to only a few thousand, if not hundred individuals. The community has three mosques, and these are as follows:
Located centrally, Halmstad Moské is the city’s main mosque and can be easily reached by train. Fully equipped and containing all the basic facilities, the main mosque has a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Muslims from all over the city and beyond come here to offer prayers. Friday congregations are especially well attended. A separate prayer area for women is available, as are toilets and ablution facilities.
