About Adelaide, Australia

Adelaide, popularly known as the ‘city of festivals’, is the capital city of South Australia. It is one of Australia’s finest planned cities, with modern infrastructure and parklands surrounding it. Since there are always some festivals going on in the city that draw global performers, this city has a relaxed and touristy lifestyle.

Adelaide is home to some of the best universities in Australia; thus, many international students have settled down in the city. This is the primary reason that Islam has flourished here. Islam was introduced in South Australia in the 1900s when Afghan cameleers migrated here and played a pivotal role in building inland transportation. In Adelaide, they form small communities and settle down. Later on, after World War II, Australia changed its migration policies. Due to this change, many Muslims from South Asia, including Pakistan, Bangladesh, and India, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia, migrated to Australia for a better quality of life. This led to the development of many Islamic schools, halal businesses, and new mosques.

Adelaide is known for its multicultural blend. Muslims in Adelaide are engaged in community service, charity drives, and community outreach programs. Islam is protected under Australian religious law, and mosques operate openly here. Let’s discuss the popular mosques and prayer times in Adelaide, Australia.

Adelaide Mosque is the oldest mosque that was built in 1886-1888 by cameleers from Afghanistan, now Pakistan, then north west of India, and Balochistan. In 1886, he put the plan in front of the Australian government, which was approved by the city corporation for construction in 1887. Finally, in June 1890, the door of the mosque was opened for the public. It was considered to be a ‘home away from home’ for all the cameleers who worked and lived in Adelaide from the 1860s to the 1920s.
