The history of Islam in Sweden dates back to the Golden Age of Islam, when Vikings first came in contact with Muslims in the 7th Century CE. However, the real influx of Muslims in Sweden came through the emigrants from the Middle Eastern Region, Africa, and the Balkan Countries during the early 1960s. According to a recent survey, a total of around 600,000 Muslims constitute 5 to 10% of the total population of Sweden, a majority of which (more than 50%) lives in Stockholm, the Capital of Sweden.
