2. Xian Xiaopiyuan Mosque / 西安小皮园清真寺

Located in the Lianhu District, the Xian Xiaopiyuan is also known as the North Mosque by the locals. Historical records have revealed that the mosque was built during the Tang dynasty from 618 to 907 AD. The mosque, similar to the Great Mosque of Xian, also carries historical significance and is one of the oldest mosques in Xian. Stones and tablets found have revealed the mosque was previously also known as Zhenjiao mosque and Wanshou mosque.

The mosque has a unique yet beautiful architecture – an element commonly found in Chinese mosques. It has a mix of Chinese and Arab Islamic architecture integrated into the building with four courtyards. Moreover, the Xian Xiaopiyuan Mosque also has a separate prayer area for women worshippers who prefer to pray in privacy and away from the male gaze. The first courtyard leads to the women's section.

The second courtyard is designated as the room of the imam, whereas the third courtyard is a room where Islamic education is taught, such as reading how to read the Quran. 4. Xi'an North Guangji Street Mosque / 西安北广济街清真寺

Located in the heart of North Guangji Street in Xi'an. The North Guangji Street Mosque was built during the last years of the Ming dynasty. It was in the Qing Dynasty that the mosque was renovated and rebuilt. The mosque has traditional Chinese architecture and has an area of 2,000 square meters. The wide and spacious prayer hall of the mosque includes a middle hall and a back hall. Additionally, there is a bunker building, a pavilion to the north and south, a bathhouse, and several other facilities in the huge building. The building is covered with bricks and stone carvings and is a must-visit if you're in Xi'an!
