Åkersberga is a small locality and is the seat of Österåker Municipality, situated in Stockholm County, Sweden. It originated in 1901 as a small village, around the Berga Railway Station, some 30 kilometers (19 miles) away from Stockholm. Gradually, this small village went through a phase of consistent development. After the end of World War II, the village of Berga transformed into a small town, which is now known as Akersberga. As of today, Akersberga is served by the narrow-gauge urban railway Roslagsbanan. This railway system has four stations in this small town, which are the main transport hubs of the town.

There is no known Islamic Cultural heritage in Akersberga, not even an established Mosque. Muslims are very few in numbers in the small town of Akersberga, although their exact number cannot be ascertained. This small Muslim community is quite particular in maintaining its religious and cultural identity within the local cultural framework. There is no locally managed place of worship within the municipal limits of Akersgerga, so they have to travel to Central Stockholm for this purpose, which is accessible by rail and road within 20 to 30 minutes.

Other festive activities, such as family gatherings and special meals, are actively managed by the local Muslim families on the occasion of both Eids.
Another difficulty local Muslims have to face is the slaughtering of sacrificial animals, which is one of the essentials of Eid al-Adha. This activity is not allowed publicly at the individual level, across Sweden, including Akersberga, as a policy matter of the Swedish Government. However, Muslim organizations and local slaughterhouses offer assistance in performing this religious obligation, especially for the Muslim Community.
