Al-Basir Meaning & Definition

Al-Basir, the All-Seeing, the all-Noticing, the all-observing, he Sees everything and everyone; nothing escapes Him, and he does without any a pupil or an instrument. Al-Basir is one of Allah's glorious 99 times that emphasizes how Allah sees every single thing and being in this universe, not even something as significant as a speck of dust or an ant is missed by Him. He sees, listens, observes, and responds to the call of His believer – all attributes are perfect without any flaws.

The name appears in the Quran for a total of 42 times.

Allah says in the Quran:

"Allah said, “Fear not. Indeed, I am with you both; I hear and I see." — (20:46)

The verse was said to Prophet Musa during a distressing time when he was made to confront Firun, a ruthless tyrant. The verse communicated to the Prophet to have faith, not fear, as Allah was without a doubt seeing Firun’s tyranny, cruelty, and ruthlessness while also hearing the Prophet Musa’s request for help.

Al-Basir is a name that should bring relief to every believer as it emphasizes the fact that Allah is there for protection, help, and comfort. Allah says in the Quran:

"And rely upon the Exalted in Might, the Merciful, who sees you when you arise And your movement among those who prostrate. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing." – 26:217-220.

This should also remind us that since Allah sees everything, we should be even more cautious about our actions and wrongdoings. No sin or wrongdoing misses Allah; he knows everything we’ve done, are doing, and will do. Therefore, we can not escape His accountability. One will be held accountable for every deed, be it good or bad.

"And say, 'Do [as you will], for Allah will see your deeds, and [so, will] His Messenger and the believers. And you will be returned to the Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, and He will inform you of what you used to do.'" (9:105)

So, we must repent for the sins already committed and we must be patient for the rewards of our good deeds since nothing has and nothing ever will miss Allah.

  • However, the name can also be recited as a part of a daily dhikr routine to seek blessings in the Dhikr. One can recite it whenever convenient, every morning and evening, after the five daily prayers or even generally. However, it is also recommended to recite it during moments of solitude and reflection or when dealing with problems related to the eyes.

  • One can also incorporate the name into one’s daily life for blessings. Remembrance of Allah is always encouraged. This can be done by telling more people about the benefits of reciting Al-Basir, especially its relief and blessings for problems with farsightedness.
