Al-Khabir Definition & Meaning

There are 100 names attributed to Almighty Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى)‎ and one of them is Al-Khabir, which means the All-Knowing and the All-Aware. This name of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى)‎ depicts the fact that Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى)‎ created the universe and he knows everything about the universe. He is aware of the past, present and the future and only he possesses this supreme knowledge. Al-Khabir refers to the comprehensive and perfect knowledge of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى)‎ and how he is aware of every single detail of the universe.

Humans can only know what Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى)‎ allows them to know. All the knowledge they possess is the knowledge that Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى)‎ has granted them access too. This surah reflects this concept:

They replied, “Glory be to You! We have no knowledge except what You have taught us. You are truly the All-Knowing, All-Wise.” (Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:32)

This Surah reflects the concept that Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى)‎ has created the universe, and he has created everything in this universe, including the lands and the seas. Even if humans explore these creations, they will never be able to access the unseen. Only Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى)‎ has the power to know everything about all of his creations and only he has the power to affect their actions.

And with Him are the keys of the unseen; none knows them except Him. And He knows what is on the land and in the sea. Not a leaf falls but that He knows it. And no grain is there within the darknesses of the earth and no moist or dry [thing] but that it is [written] in a clear record. (Surah Al-An'am, 6:59)

Only Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى)‎ has the power to know all about his creations and what is in their heart. He knows about every human’s past, present and future and is aware of all their actions. This Surah encourages believers to act righteously and perform good deeds:

Are you not aware that Allah knows whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth? Never is there any whispering among three but He is their fourth; nor among five but He is their sixth; nor fewer nor more but He is with them wherever they may be. And then He will tell them on the Day of Judgement all that they have done. Surely Allah knows everything. (Surah Al-Mujadila, 58:7)
