Maghrib is known as evening prayer, which is offered immediately after sunset. Isha prayer is recited at night, but well before midnight. Tonga Cities with Muslim Population

Tonga, also known as the Kingdom of Tonga, is an Island Country comprising around 171 small islands. Most of these islands are uninhabited. Only 45 of them are populated. The Kingdom of Tonga is predominantly a Christian Country, although there is no officislly declared State Religion as per the constitution of Tonga. Per the latest census, the total population of Tonga is slightly above 108,000 people, a considerable majority of which follow Christianity.

Islam is a small minority in Tonga. According to the latest available surveys, there are around 100 Muslims living in Tonga, mostly on the main Island, Tongatapu. However, some reports suggest that the Muslim population in Tonga might be around 1000, which seems to be somewhat exaggerated. The presence of Islam in Tonga is far less than 1% of the total population and that is too concentrated in the main Island.

You can find accurate prayer timings at Muslim and Quran, for the main Island of Tonga, as well as other locations within this Island Country.

Islamic Culture and Heritage in Tonga

Tonga is a very small Country having just 108,000 population, around 90% of whom follow Christianity. The Muslim population is reported to be just a fraction above 100. Hence, there is no considerable impact of Islam, as a religion, on the Culture and Heritage of the Kingdom of Tonga. But at the same time, the small Muslim Community is still proactively striving for the expansion of Islam in this small Island country.

Muslims of Tonga are trying to establish a Muslim School for the children to learn Islamic teachings as well as Arabic as a language. They expect to raise funds for an Islamic School in Tonga with the help of rich Muslim nations of the Middle East.

At present, a Mosque is also available in the Kingdom of Tonga, known as Masjid Al-Khadeeja. It is situated in Nuku'alofa, on the main Island of Tongatapu. This mosque was established in 2010, mainly with financial help from abroad.

Islamic Festivals and Events in Tonga

With just around 100 Muslims in Tonga, there are hardly any Islamic Festivals and Events celebrated on a countrywide level. Most of the festivals in Tonga are either national festivals, such as the King's Birthday, or religious events of Christians, such as Good Friday and Christmas.

However, Muslims of Tonga are very particular about their religious events and festivals. The presence of a Mosque on the main Island facilitates the performance of daily regular prayers. Similarly, fasting in the month of Ramadan is also followed by them.

The main Islamic festivals of the two Eids, Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, are also celebrated among the small community of Tongan Muslims. Unlike many other Countries, there is no official holiday for these two Islamic Festivals; Muslims do celebrate them, on their own.
