Chapter 12

باب 12

(12) باب الأَمْرِ بِتَغْطِيَةِ الإِنَاءِ وَإِيكَاءِ السِّقَاءِ وَإِغْلاَقِ الأَبْوَابِ وَذِكْرِ اسْمِ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهَا وَإِطْفَاءِ السِّرَاجِ وَالنَّارِ عِنْدَ النَّوْمِ وَكَفِّ الصِّبْيَانِ وَالْمَوَاشِي بَعْدَ الْمَغْرِبِ

(12) Chapter: It is recommended to cover vessels, tie up waterskins, close doors and mention the name of Allah over them, extinguish lamps and fires when going to sleep, and keep children and animals in after maghrib

وَحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى، قَالَ قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَالِكٍ عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ غَيْرَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ " وَاكْفِئُوا الإِنَاءَ أَوْ خَمِّرُوا الإِنَاءَ " . وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ تَعْرِيضَ الْعُودِ عَلَى الإِنَاءِ .

This hadith is reported on the authority of Jabir but with a slight change of wording, and he did not mention the words:
" Putting a stick across the vessel."
