The picture above shows Jannatul Mu’
alla, the principle historical graveyard in Mecca which is located in a valley east of the Masjid al-Haram. Several members of the Prophet’
s (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) family and many Sahabah (may Allah be pleased with them) are buried here.
The following personalities are buried in this graveyard:
- Ummul Mu’
mineen Khadija (may Allah be pleased with her), the first wife of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him)
- Qasim, the eldest son of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) from his wife Khadija (may Allah be pleased with her);
he died in infancy.
- Abdullah, the second son of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) from his wife Khadija (may Allah be pleased with her);
he was also known as Tahir and Tayyab.
- Abu Talib –
the uncle of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him)
- Abdul Muttalib –
the grandfather of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him)
