O you who have believed, indeed the polytheists are unclean, so let them not approach al-Masjid al-Haram after this, their [final] year. And if you fear privation, Allah will enrich you from His bounty if He wills. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Wise. (Quran 9:28)
And that it is He who enriches and suffices (Quran 53:48)

Allah is Al-Mughni, the One who abundantly provides for His creation, fulfilling all their needs. He enriches all His creations to ensure their satisfaction and contentment.
Al-Mughni describes Allah’s attribute as a Creator being the ultimate provider of wealth, sustenance, and all forms of enrichment. The name reflects His ability to provide abundantly and enrich His creations, both spiritually and in the form of materials. The name clearly states Allah’s mercy upon us, His limitless kindness and generosity not only for mankind but for His entire creation.
Allah provides us more than what we ask Him and beyond what we can ever imagine. His generosity is beyond the understanding of humans, and He provides in ways that are both seen and unseen. We should place our complete trust in His power and believe that our Lord will provide us in ways that we never imagined.
Al-Mughni is often explained with Al-Ghani due to the similar meanings, which are The Rich and The Self-Sufficient. Al-Mughni, as such, is not mentioned in the Quran, whereas Al-Ghani is present 18 times in the Quran. The name might not be there, but there are several verses in the Quran that describe Allah as Al-Mughni.
In Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Allah says:
“God is certainly the great provider, Lord of strength and power.” (Quran 51:58)
In Surah At-Tawbah, Allah says,
“…In case you fear indigence (from the stoppage of business with them), then God will enrich you of His bounty if He will, for God is all-knowing and all-wise.” (Quran 9:28)
Allah has 99 names and every name is equally beautiful. Al-Mughni is not directly mentioned in the Quran, but it does come in Hadith. It is narrated by Abu Huraira (R.A) that Muhammad (S.A.W) said:
“Indeed, Allah has ninety-nine Names, one hundred less one, whoever counts them shall enter Paradise. He is Allah, the one whom there is none worthy of worship except for Him (Allahu La Illaha Illa Huawa), the Most Merciful (to the creation) (Ar-Rahman), the Most Beneficent (to the believers) (Ar-Rahman), …… the Rich (Al-Ghani), the Enricher (Al-Mughni), the Preventer (Al-Mani)….” (Jami at-Tirmidhi 3507, Book 48, Hadith 138)
It is also recommended to learn, understand, and act upon these names to strengthen your bond with Allah and gain His mercy. It is narrated by Abu Huraira (R.A);
“Allah has ninety-nine Names, i.e., one hundred minus one, and whoever believes in their meanings and acts accordingly, will enter Paradise; and Allah is witr (one) and loves ‘the witr’ (i.e., odd numbers).” (Sahih Al-Bukhari 6410, Book 80, Hadith 105)
We should mention Allah by His name in all affairs of our lives. It is narrated by Aisha (R.A),
The Messenger of Allah (S.A.W) said: When one of you eats, he should mention Allah’s name, if he forgets to mention Allah’s name at the beginning, he should say: “In the name of Allah at the beginning and at the end of it.”
So, even before eating, we should mention the name of Allah. Al-Mughni means ‘The Enricher’ or ‘The Bestower of Wealth,’ highlighting Allah’s role as the ultimate power who provides His creations in abundance. Learning the meaning of His name will help us understand the divine mercy of Allah and help in our emotional and spiritual well-being. Al-Mughni clearly tells us that everything we possess comes from the only source, which is Allah, and we should rely solely on Him.
Doing zikr of Al-Mughni into daily prayers is a powerful way to seek Allah’s provision and blessings. By calling Allah as Al-Mughni, we consider Him and accept Him as the ultimate source of all the provisions we get to fulfill our needs, wants, and desires. You can recite Al-Mughni in your supplications to ask Allah to help you maintain your financial issues, spiritual growth, and even emotional fulfillment.
Remembering Allah as Al-Mughni benefits us by strengthening our faith, believing that Allah is the only provider for us and He is generous in providing for His creations. We can take the example of Hazrat Zakriya (A.S) when he asked Allah to provide him with offspring even though he and his wife were old and Allah granted them with Yahya (A.S). Allah says in Surah Al-Anbiya:
“So We heard him and gave him John (Yahya), and cured his wife (of barrenness). These were men who vied in good deeds with one another, and prayed to Us with love and awe, and were meek before Us.” (Quran 21:90)
In an instance, Hazrat Ali (R.A) narrated that a Mukatib came to him and said: “Indeed I am not capable of my Kitabah so aid me.” He said: “Should I not teach you words that Rasool Allah (S.A.W) taught me? If you had a debt upon you similar to the mountain of Sir, Allah would fulfill it for you.” He said:
اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلاَلِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ
“O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful against Your prohibited, and make me independent of all those besides You.” (Jami at-Tirmidhi 3563, Book 48, Hadith 194)
When naming your children, it is not recommended in our religion to directly name your child on Allah’s name as the attributes depicted in the names belong only to Allah alone. Al-Mughni is not a name that is common among Muslims, but before using such names that have meaning like The Enricher, which can only be Allah and not a person, one should always use Abdul. For example, you cannot name your son Rahman, but if you add Abdur before it, it becomes the Slave of Rahman.
Among the 99 names of Allah, names with similar meanings to Al-Mughni are:
Al-Mughni and all the other 98 names define the attributes of Allah and His quality of being the most high, merciful, and generous when it comes to giving to His creations. Remember Allah as Al-Mughni when you face challenges in life and know that He is the only provider of wealth and no one can help you except the Almighty.
