O you who have believed, do not be like those who disbelieved and said about their brothers when they traveled through the land or went out to fight, “If they had been with us, they would not have died or have been killed,” so Allah makes that [misconception] a regret within their hearts. And it is Allah who gives life and causes death, and Allah is Seeing of what you do. (Quran 3:156)

Indeed, whoever comes to his Lord as a criminal – indeed, for him is Hell;
he will neither die therein nor live. (Quran 20:74)

His is the dominion of the heavens and earth. He gives life and causes death, and He is over all things competent. (Quran 57:2)

Wherever you may be, death will overtake you, even if you should be within towers of lofty construction. But if good comes to them, they say, “This is from Allah “;
and if evil befalls them, they say, “This is from you.” Say, “All [things] are from Allah. “So, what is [the matter] with those people that they can hardly understand any statement? (Quran 4:78)

Allah’s (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى)‎ name Al-Mumit refers to his absolute power and the fact that only Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى)‎ has power over all his creations. He has created each single being within the universe and he has control over their lives and their deaths. He is the one who decides who will live, for what time period and who will die. Only Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى)‎ can take life and only he has the power to permit new varieties of lifestyles to be born. This attribute of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى)‎ reminds believers of the fact that they're all mortal and that Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى)‎ is immortal. This encourages them to perform righteous deeds as they're aware that their existence isn't within their control.

Everyone in this world is here for a certain period of time and whenever Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى)‎ wills, he can take someone’s life. This attribute of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى)‎ has also been mentioned in the following ayat:

۞قُلۡ يَتَوَفَّىٰكُم مَّلَكُ ٱلۡمَوۡتِ ٱلَّذِي وُكِّلَ بِكُمۡ ثُمَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكُمۡ تُرۡجَعُونَ

 The angel of death will take you who has been entrusted with you. Then to your Lord you will be returned. (Surah Al-Sajdah, 32:11)

Death is inevitable for every single being and creation on this planet. To remind individuals of their mortality, this attribute of Allah(سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى)‎ has been mentioned in this Surah:

                                                                                                    وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَضْحَكَ وَأَبْكَىٰ ٤٣  وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَمَاتَ وَأَحْيَا

            Moreover, He is the One Who brings about joy and sadness. And He is the One Who gives life and causes death.  (Surah An-Najm, 53:43)
