Today Prayer Times in Greenland

Salah (ritual prayer) is one of the five pillars of Islam. Salah holds countless benefits for the believers. It helps them connect with their Lord, strengthens their faith, and influences them to stay away from the path of evil and indulge in good deeds to please their Lord. Allah says in the Quran:

“Recite what has been revealed to you of this Book, and be constant in devotion. Surely prayer keeps you away from the obscene and detestable, but the remembrance of God is greater far; and God knows what you do.” (45:29)

Islam in Greenland

As of 2019, Greenland only has one Muslim citizen, a Lebanese man named Wassam Azaqeer. Wassam lives in Nuuk – the capital of Greenland where he owns a restaurant. One day’s fast in Greenland usually lasts for 21 hours. Wassam does not plans to leave the arctic-cold because there will be no one left to fast during the blessed month of Ramadan in Greenland after his departure. Greenland is one of the countries with the longest hours for fasting. However, that is not the reason why the country does not have a large Muslim population. Due to the harsh climate of the arctic along with the remote location, Greenland is generally not inhibited by a large number of people which explains the lack of Muslim presence in the area. Since the Muslim population is negligible, there are no mosques in Greenland. You may also not be able to find halal food and dining options, unless you go to Wassam’s restaurant in Nuuk! Therefore, we recommend being mindful of the food you consume during your stay in the country and also stick to vegetarian options!
