Islam was introduced in Yemen in the early days of Islam, in 630 CE. Since then, Yemen has been a majority Muslim Country. Even the first Mosque in its Capital, Sanaa, was built during the 7th Century, known as the Great Mosque of Sanaa. Apart from the historic Great Mosque of Sanaa, various other Mosques and Islamic Institutions can be found in Yemen.

Since the conquest of Yemen during the lifetime of the Prophet Muhammad صَلَّى ٱللَّٰهُ عَلَيْهِۦ وَسَلَّمَ, Yemen remained a part of the first Islamic State. It remained a province of the Islamic State of Medina during the era of the Rashidun Caliphate. The subsequent Caliphates also maintained the status of Yemen till the early 9th Century CE, when Yemen was disassociated from the Caliphate and went under the control of local dynasties. However, Islam remained the major religion throughout the history of Yemen. Hence, the Islamic Cultural heritage is deeply rooted in Yemen. Muslim culture is reflected in Yemen's literature, arts, architecture, and entertainment activities.
