Wind storms can be devastating. They cause damage to life, livestock, and property. In some cases, winds exceed the speed of 55 km/hour, and they leave destruction in their wake. Our beloved Prophet (ﷺ) taught us two duas to recite during a wind storm for protection. The Prophet (ﷺ) has mentioned two duas to recite during a wind storm, quoted in the authentic source Hisn al-Muslim (166, 167). Both duas ask Allah almighty's protection against the harm that a windstorm might do.
Nature Duas
Allaahumma 'innee 'as'aluka khayrahaa, wa 'a'oothu bika min sharrihaa.
O Allah, I ask You for the good of it and seek refuge in You against its evil.
Allaahumma 'innee 'as'aluka kthayrahaa, wa khayra maa feehaa, wa khayra maa 'ursilat bihi wa a'oothu bika min sharrihaa, wa sharri maa feehaa, wa sharri maa 'ursilat bihi.
O Allah, I ask You for the good of it, for the good of what it contains, and for the good of what is sent with it. I seek refuge in You from the evil of it, from the evil of what it contains, and from the evil that is sent with it.
The two duas mentioned above should be recited during a wind storm. All types of weather conditions are a blessing from Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى). However, extreme weather can be dangerous. Whether it's scorching heat or floods, intense snowfall, or wind storms, all can bring life to a standstill and cause immense damage. Therefore, as Muslims, we must recall Allah in times of hardship and seek his protection and blessings.
Allah says in the Quran, "No one despairs of relief from Allah except the disbelieving people." (Quran, 12:87). Therefore, Muslims, the believers of Allah, must not despair even in the toughest circumstances and thank Allah for His blessings and ask for His assistance. Natural disasters can leave many without a home and a means of earning. Displacement can bring frustration and anger, but reciting the above Duas will save you from the fear of natural disasters and will assure you that Allah's help is near.
There are many benefits of reciting dua during a wind storm. First, we will be remembering and following a Sunnah of our beloved Prophet (ﷺ). Secondly, we will be seeking refuge with Allah from the harsh weather and will be turning toward Him when we feel scared. Lastly, reciting dua during a wind storm will keep us safe from the harmful winds and incur their blessings.
Ideally, this dua must be recited during a wind storm to ask for Allah's mercy during the harsh weather.
Yes, this dua can also be recited during a thunderstorm or a heavy storm.
Apart from these duas, one can recite Astaghfirullah and La hawla wala quwwata illa billah during a wind storm to seek Allah's mercy and protection.
