Dua for fear of shirk is a dua that Muslims recite to protect themselves from committing shirk, knowingly or unknowingly. The fear of committing shirk is common and caused by waswas (the whispers of Shaytan) along with thoughts that come from obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). The Shaytan's purpose in our life is to cause us distress, make us miserable, and sway us away from our faith and deen. However, we must learn to ignore these waswas. Along with training yourself to not focus on these waswas, distracting yourself with other chores and work, you can also choose to make Dua as there is indeed nothing better in this world for a Muslim than to supplicate to Allah almighty and seek help from Him when in need.
The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said in regards to shirk as narrated in Sahih al Bukhari: "Avoid the Mubiqat, i.e., shirk and witchcraft." – Sahih al Bukhari 5764. Abdullah (رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْهُ) also narrated: "When (the following) was revealed: It is those who believe and confuse not their belief with Zulm (wrong) (6:82) - That bothered some Muslims, so they said: 'O Messenger of Allah! Which of us has not wronged himself?' He said: 'It is not that, it is only shirk. Have you not heard what Luqman said to his son: O my son! Do not commit Shirk with Allah. Verily shirk is a tremendous Zulm (wrong) (31:13)." – Jami at Tirmidhi 3067
These ahadith go on to show that shirk is indeed considered great in Islam. However, you must remember the fear of committing shirk is not equivalent to committing shirk. Therefore, make dua and seek repentance from Allah Almighty, and you will be met with relief.
Joy & Distress Duas
Allaahumma 'innee 'a'oothu bika 'an 'ushrika bika wa 'anaa 'a'lamu, wa 'astaghfiruka limaa laa 'a'lamu.
O Allah, I seek refuge in You lest I associate anything with You knowingly, and I seek Your forgiveness for what I know not.
It is recommended to recite this Dua whenever you feel the waswas or have any fears and thoughts of committing shirk. The dua is known to bring relief to those fears of committing shirk.
This Dua will help you deal with waswas from the Shaytan and provide relief from your irrational fear of committing shirk. Remember, it is normal to have intrusive fears and thoughts. However, having intrusive thoughts does not make them rational.
