Known for being a popular tourist destination with various mosques, Bangkok consists of 4.9% Muslims who gather for congregational prayer according to the prayer times in Bangkok daily. Although it is not a Muslim-majority country, there are numerous mosques in Bangkok that allow Muslims to offer their daily prayers and provide various services that foster a sense of belonging and community amongst Muslims in Bangkok.

Muslims gather in mosques to pray and participate in Islamic classes, religious sermons, and community-building activities. Apart from Muslims, other people, including Bangkok's citizens and tourists, also visit these beautiful mosques. Let's look at a few of the most popular mosques in Bangkok.
The Haroon Mosque was constructed in the 19th century and was made of wood, but Haroon's son, Muhammad Yosuf, decided to transform it into brick and lime in 1934. This mosque is located near the Charoen Krung road, and it is often visited by families from various countries such as India, Africa, Pakistan, and others who are citizens of Bangkok. Moreover, Haroon mosque is known to be one of the oldest mosques in Bangkok, and it has a capacity of 3000 people.
The mosque has two prayer rooms, a bookstore, a library, office space, and a food court. The mosque focuses on two main agendas: the promotion of harmony and the education of non-Muslims. Additionally, Haroon mosque conducts regular prayers and Jummah prayers, with the Jummah Khutbah being repeated in English as well.
This mosque is Bangkok's largest mosque, with a floor space of 16,000 square meters and a capacity of 5000 people. With a beautiful and distinct architectural style, this mosque was completed in 1984 and consists of two huge prayer rooms and various other facilities such as a library, food court, bookstore, and office space. The Foundation of Islamic Centre not only allows Muslims to worship but also provides various services such as food, access to books, and spaces for work. The mosque also consists of a living room, office of trustee, and a hall that is designed for approximately 1000 people and can be used for religious events, meetings, weddings, or seminars.
Tonson Mosque believed to have been built between 1610 and 1628, is considered to be the oldest Sunni mosque in Thailand. Originally named Kudai Yai, the Tonson Mosque is a building made from teak wood with terracotta roof tiles. It bears a strong resemblance to the Buddhist monastery's halls. Inside the mosque, there is a Mimbun (pulpit), and it is adorned with Arabic calligraphy, along with pictures of the Kaaba. This mosque has a capacity of 300, and apart from being a place of worship, Muslims and other people from around the world visit this mosque to tour the graveyard of the chiefs of the Muslims of Thailand that is constructed outside the mosque.
Ban Oou Mosque was constructed in the 1940s and is considered to be one of Bangkok's earliest mosques. It serves as a reminder of when Muslims first began to settle in Bang Rak. After settling, the Muslim community started building this mosque in the 1900s. Ban Oou mosque maintains significant antiques of the community, among them an ancient daf, a type of frame drum.
This particular drum, a century old, was historically employed to assemble people and signal prayer times throughout the day. Muslims continue to gather in this mosque for prayer times in Bangkok daily for congregational prayers. However, they also visit Ban Oou mosque for community meetings, education, and other religious events. The mosque also offers houses near the mosque for rent at an affordable rate to the community.
Al Hussein Mosque is one of Thailand's oldest mosques and has been in existence for 300 years now. Many people refer to it as the ‘300 Year Mosque'. The mosque's design showcases striking beauty, with towers built in the Chinese architectural style using wood sourced from hummingbirds and ironwood trees. The handwritten Quran and the architectural designs of the mosque stand as captivating historical artifacts.
