As a tourist or resident in Lima, Peru, you may enjoy the pre-Columbian artifacts and historical places like the Museo de la Nación in this city. While the ancient civilizations are certainly interesting, it can be challenging to lead an Islamic lifestyle here. The constitution of Peru is secular, which doesn't really encourage the construction or operation of mosques here. With around 5000 Muslims in the country, most of them in Lima, you can expect a few mosques in the area. Most of the Muslims here have Palestinian, Syrian, or Lebanese backgrounds, so expect a mostly Sunni-based community.

The history of mosques in this country isn't rich. With quite a bit of anti-Muslim sentiment in its history, Peru doesn't have too many places for accommodating Islamic prayers. Some mosques that did open up have had to close down recently. The low number of Muslims also means that there isn't a lot of financial support for such setups. However, these obstacles won't deter Peruvian Muslims who are determined to practice their faith! The mosques and prayer areas in the region still stay active, especially during the special Friday prayers and the holy month of Ramadan. Mosque of Lima

The Mosque of Lima, also called the Mosque of Magdalena del Mar, is among the few purpose-built mosques in Peru. It doesn't have that traditional Arabic or Asian architectural facade, so you may not immediately recognize it as a mosque. However, it's been around since 1986, being constructed by the district's Palestinian community. The building is open to all, so even non-Muslims can visit if they're interested.

The mosque is located in an area with several mansions, with the structure being a donation to the community by a businessman of Palestinian origin. For now, it's owned by the Islamic Association of Peru. This organization also has its headquarters in the same building. The mosque also provides a platform for interfaith dialogues, informational lectures, classes, and so much more. You'll also find this the perfect place for celebrating Ramadan, Eid, and all the other Islamic occasions.
