Prayer times in Belgrade, Serbia

Islam is a minority religion in Serbia, where the majority of people follow the Christian faith. Unfortunately, Muslims here do face quite a bit of difficulty in getting purpose-built mosques for their communities. While they make up almost 5 percent of the Serbian population, Muslims tend to be virtually unseen, unrepresented, and unheard when it comes to official places of worship.

Most of the Muslims in this region have Bosniak or Albanian heritage, though there are other ethnic groups here as well. If you’re one of these individuals, locating an operating mosque in Belgrade is probably a tough challenge. Still, you’ve got a reliable option in the form of the MuslimandQuran app. With the app downloaded, you’ll have access to the latest updated prayer times in Belgrade, Serbia.  With the notifications on, a prayer routine is manageable even in makeshift mosques.

Popular Mosques in Belgrade, Serbia

Muslims in Belgrade once used to have access to around 200 mosques, but they have just one official place for prayers now. Most of the other mosques have been demolished or closed down, forcing Muslims to pray in private homes or wherever they can find a space to gather. Even with these limitations, Belgradian Muslims are striving to get prayer spaces for their five prayers as well as social centers for their little community. For now, the Islamic community is regularly submitting building requests to the authorities, so we may hope for more mosques here at some point.

Bajrakli Mosque

The Bajrakli Mosque is the only official Belgradian mosque. It dates back to 1575, a time when the region was under the Ottoman Empire. It’s an unassuming structure and not very prominent, but its importance for the local Muslim community is undeniable. While protesters did set the Bajrakli Mosque on fire in 2004, the building fortunately remains standing to this day. This structure is also an interesting piece of Islamic architectural history, having been described by several travel writers and historians as early as the 17th century. Since it’s regarded as a cultural monument, state protection prevents it from the damage or demolishment that other Islamic structures face in the city.

Halal Dining and Food Options in Belgrade, Serbia

The limited Belgradian  Muslim population usually makes do with home-cooked food when it’s time to eat. Alternatively, they can also go for any vegan or vegetarian options available in various restaurants. As long as the preparation methods avoid contamination and non-permissible ingredients, you can easily grab a snack or meal in any dining spot. For the best halal menus, though, check out the following recommendations:

Hanan

Customers who have tried the cuisine here report that they have generous portions and the most delicious Middle Eastern food in the country. While the service may not always be agreeable, it’s nice to have a place that’s guaranteed to serve great food.

If you’re at this restaurant, try the Kapse Lahme for a yummy blend of almonds, rice, and aromatic spices. There’s also a range of hummus types, with the main dishes worth a try being the chicken kebabs, fattoush salad, and more.

Overall, we can classify this place as a nice restaurant with mostly Lebanese and other Middle Eastern cuisines on hand. While prices might be a little too steep for many people, the portions you get make up for it somewhat. You’ll either fill your stomach or get some leftovers to use for the next day!

Sauarma Bar

Don’t get confused by the name; this relatively new dining spot is a halal restaurant on Nemanjina Street. It’s at a convenient central location, with the Salvija Square just a matter of steps away. The place is small, but there’s a variety of dishes from the Arab cuisine to try out. Their falafel is recommended by many customers, along with the chicken shawarma.

We’re especially relieved to find that that restaurant has a friendly group of staff members running the operations. If you ask them, they’ll always be ready to explain, recommend, or make suggestions to enhance your experience. There are also some delicious vegetarian dishes, with sauces and other condiments, to make things interesting. While it’s not much more than a small snack joint, customers seem to love the vibe and even take their work there at times.

Zuwar Belgrade Restaurant

It seems like halal food options are mostly available only in Arab-based cuisine in this city. Even so, the Zuwar Belgrade Restaurant will give you a range of choices. What’s even better? Most of their dishes are healthy options along with following traditional recipes and using authentic spices.

Offer Your Salat on Time With Muslim and Quran

It’s a challenge to practice Islam in Belgrade, Serbia. However, Muslims do make up a significant minority here, so they’ve developed an active, tightly-knit community despite the circumstances. While there’s only one official mosque in the city, connecting with the Muslim community might help you find several more unofficial prayer spaces. Ask your fellow Muslims about prayer groups, classes, lectures, and talks that can help you assimilate better. Whether it’s a small room, a palatial home, or one of the oldest mosques in existence, Muslims have to offer their prayers and maintain a connection with their faith. Through it all, the MuslimandQuran app is always committed to helping Muslims fulfill this essential tenet of their religion. Since prayer is one of the first obligations we will be questioned about on the Day of Qiyamah, it’s important to stay on track with each prayer time. Download the app now, turn on its notifications, and see how things become easier almost immediately!
