٩ - ٱلتَّوْبَة

9 - At-Tawba

يَّوْمَ يُحْمٰي عَلَيْہَا فِيْ نَارِ جَہَنَّمَ فَتُكْوٰي بِہَا جِبَاہُہُمْ وَجُنُوْبُہُمْ وَظُہُوْرُہُمْ۝۰ۭ ہٰذَا مَا كَنَزْتُمْ لِاَنْفُسِكُمْ فَذُوْقُوْا مَا كُنْتُمْ تَكْنِزُوْنَ۝۳۵
Yawma yuhma AAalayha fee nari jahannama fatukwa biha jibahuhum wajunoobuhum wathuhooruhum hatha ma kanaztum lianfusikum fathooqoo ma kuntum taknizoona

On the day We shall heat up (their gold) on the fire of Hell and brand their foreheads, sides and backs (and say to them): "It is this you stored up for yourselves; so now taste of what you had stored!"

Tafseer

'Abdullāh Ibn 'Abbās / Muḥammad al-Fīrūzabādī

تفسير : (on the day when it) the treasures they hoarded up (will (all) be heated in the fire of hell, and their foreheads and their flanks and their backs will be branded therewith) with their treasures ((and it will be said unto them): here is) the punishment of (that which you hoarded) the wealth you amassed (for yourselves) in the life of this world. (now taste of what ye used to hoard) amass.

Jalāl al-Dīn al-Maḥallī

تفسير : on the day when it shall be heated in the fire of hell and therewith their foreheads and their sides and their backs shall be branded, burnt — their skins will be stretched until these [hoards of gold and silver] can be placed on them entirely, and it will be said to them: ‘this is what you hoarded up for yourselves: so taste now what you used to hoard!’, that is, [taste] its requital.
