So he threw it down, and lo, it became a running serpent.

'Abdullāh Ibn 'Abbās / Muḥammad al-Fīrūzabādī
تفسير : so he cast it down) from his hand, (and lo! it was a serpent, gliding) and when it lifted its head up, moses run away from it.
Jalāl al-Dīn al-Maḥallī
تفسير : and he cast it down, and lo! it was a serpent, a giant snake, moving swiftly, moving about on its belly swiftly with the speed of a small snake — which is called al-jānn and which is [also] used to refer to this [serpent] in another verse [q. 27:10; q. 28:31].
