Remember Noah when he called to Us before this. We heard him and saved him and those with him from great distress;

'Abdullāh Ibn 'Abbās / Muḥammad al-Fīrūzabādī
تفسير : (and noah) we also honoured him with prophethood, (when he cried) when he prayed to his lord to destroy his people (of old) before lot, (we heard his prayer and saved him and his household) as well as those who believed in him (from the great affliction) i.e. from drowning.
Jalāl al-Dīn al-Maḥallī
تفسير : and, mention, noah (what follows [nūhan] substitutes for it) when he called, when he supplicated [to god] against his people — with the words my lord, do not leave [upon the earth any inhabitant from among the disbelievers] … to the end [of the verse, q. 71:26], before, that is, before [the time of] abraham and lot. and we responded to him, and delivered him and his people, who were in the ark with him, from the great agony, namely, [from] drowning and his people’s denial of him.
