٢٣ - ٱلْمُؤْمِنُون

23 - Al-Mu'minoon

ثُمَّ خَلَقْنَا النُّطْفَۃَ عَلَقَۃً فَخَـلَقْنَا الْعَلَقَۃَ مُضْغَۃً فَخَـلَقْنَا الْمُضْغَۃَ عِظٰمًا فَكَسَوْنَا الْعِظٰمَ لَحْــمًا۝۰ۤ ثُمَّ اَنْشَاْنٰہُ خَلْقًا اٰخَرَ۝۰ۭ فَتَبٰرَكَ اللہُ اَحْسَنُ الْخٰلِقِيْنَ۝۱۴ۭ
Thumma khalaqna alnnutfata AAalaqatan fakhalaqna alAAalaqata mudghatan fakhalaqna almudghata AAithaman fakasawna alAAithama lahman thumma anshanahu khalqan akhara fatabaraka Allahu ahsanu alkhaliqeena

Then We fashioned the sperm into an embryo, then fashioned the embryo into a shapeless lump of flesh; then from the lump of flesh We fashioned bones, then clothed the bones with flesh. Thus We formed him into a new creation. So blessed be God the best of Creators.

Tafseer

'Abdullāh Ibn 'Abbās / Muḥammad al-Fīrūzabādī

تفسير : (then fashioned we) then we transformed (the drop) into (a clot) for another forty days, (then fashioned we) then we transformed (the clot) into (a little lump) for forty days, (then fashioned we) the we transformed (the little lump) into (bones) without flesh, (then clothed the bones with flesh) joints, veins and other things, (and then produced it another creation) and then we placed in it the spirit. (so blessed be allah, the best of creators) the best of transformers!

Jalāl al-Dīn al-Maḥallī

تفسير : then we transformed the drop [of semen] into a clot, congealed blood. then we transformed the clot into a [little] lump of flesh (mudgha), a piece of flesh, about the size of what one would be able to chew (mā yumdagh). then we transformed the lump of flesh into bones. then we clothed the bones with flesh (a variant reading in both instances [instead of the plurals ‘izāman and al-‘izāma, ‘the bones’] is [singular] ‘azman [and ‘al-‘azma], ‘the bone’; and in all three instances above khalaqnā, means ‘we made it become’ [as opposed to ‘we created’]). then we produced him as [yet] another creature, by breathing into him [our] spirit. so blessed be god, the best of creators!, that is, [the best of] determiners (the specificier noun for ahsana, ‘the best’, has been omitted because it is obvious: khalqan, ‘in terms of creation’).

Ali ibn Ahmad al-Wahidi

تفسير : (so blessed be allah, the best of creators!) [23:14]. ahmad ibn muhammad ibn ‘abd allah al-hafiz informed us> ‘abd allah ibn muhammad ibn hayyan> muhammad ibn sulayman> ahmad ibn ‘abd allah ibn suwayd ibn manjuf> abu dawud> hammad ibn salamah> ‘ali ibn zayd ibn jud‘an> anas ibn malik who reported that ‘umar ibn al-khattab, may allah be well pleased with him, said: “my words agreed with those of my lord in four instances. i said: ‘o messenger of allah, why do we not pray behind the maqam [were abraham stood to pray]’, and allah, exalted is he, revealed (… take as your place of worship the place where abraham stood (to pray)…) [2:125]. and i said: ‘o messenger of allah, why do you not put a curtain [to protect your wives from the gaze of men]?’ and so allah, exalted is he, revealed: (and when ye ask of them (the wives of the prophet) anything, ask it of them from behind a curtain…) [33:53]. i also said to the wives of the prophet, allah bless him and give him peace: ‘you had better take heed or allah, glorious is he, will give the prophet instead of you wives who are better than you’. and so allah, exalted is he, revealed (it may happen that his lord, if he divorce you, will give him in your stead wives better than you) [66:5]. and when the verse (verily we created man from a product of wet earth) [23:12] up to his words (… and the produced it as another creation) [23:14] were revealed, i exclaimed: ‘so blessed be allah, the best of creators!’ and the end of the verse was revealed as: (so blessed be allah, the best of creators!)’ ”.
