٢٣ - ٱلْمُؤْمِنُون

23 - Al-Mu'minoon

قَالُوْۗا ءَ اِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَّ عِظَامًا ءَ اِنَّا لَمَبْعُوْثُوْنَ۝۸۲
Qaloo aitha mitna wakunna turaban waAAithaman ainna lamabAAoothoona

Tafseer

'Abdullāh Ibn 'Abbās / Muḥammad al-Fīrūzabādī

تفسير : (they say: when we are dead and have become mere) scattered (dust and) decayed (bones, shall we then, forsooth, be raised again) after we have died?

Jalāl al-Dīn al-Maḥallī

تفسير : they, the ancients, said, ‘what, when we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then be raised? no! (the two hamzas in each of the two instances are either pronounced fully, or with the second one not pronounced, but with an alif inserted between the two [hamzas] in both [readings]).
