٢٤ - ٱلنُّور

24 - An-Nour

وَالَّذِيْنَ يَرْمُوْنَ الْمُحْصَنٰتِ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَاْتُوْا بِاَرْبَعَۃِ شُہَدَاۗءَ فَاجْلِدُوْہُمْ ثَمٰنِيْنَ جَلْدَۃً وَّلَا تَــقْبَلُوْا لَہُمْ شَہَادَۃً اَبَدًا۝۰ۚ وَاُولٰۗىِٕكَ ہُمُ الْفٰسِقُوْنَ۝۴ۙ
Waallatheena yarmoona almuhsanati thumma lam yatoo biarbaAAati shuhadaa faijlidoohum thamaneena jaldatan wala taqbaloo lahum shahadatan abadan waolaika humu alfasiqoona

Those who defame chaste women and do not bring four witnesses should be punished with eighty lashes, and their testimony should not be accepted afterwards, for they are profligates,

Tafseer

'Abdullāh Ibn 'Abbās / Muḥammad al-Fīrūzabādī

تفسير : (and those who accuse honourable women) of committing adultery (but bring not four witnesses) four upright, muslim persons, (scourge them (with)) flog them (eighty stripes) for their slander (and never (afterward) accept their testimony. they indeed are evil-doers) they are sinners because of their slander.

Jalāl al-Dīn al-Maḥallī

تفسير : and those who accuse honourable women [in wedlock], who are chaste, of fornication, and then do not bring four witnesses, to testify as eyewitnesses to their fornication, strike them eighty lashes, that is, each one of them, and do not accept any testimony from them ever, in anything; and those, they are the immoral, for committing a grave sin (kabīra);
