71 - Nouh

مِمَّا خَطِيْۗـــٰٔــتِہِمْ اُغْرِقُوْا فَاُدْخِلُوْا نَارًا۝۰ۥۙ فَلَمْ يَجِدُوْا لَہُمْ مِّنْ دُوْنِ اللہِ اَنْصَارًا۝۲۵
Mimma khateeatihim oghriqoo faodkhiloo naran falam yajidoo lahum min dooni Allahi ansaran

They were drowned because of their habitual sinfulness, and sent to Hell, and did not find any helper other than God.

Tafseer

'Abdullāh Ibn 'Abbās / Muḥammad al-Fīrūzabādī

تفسير : (because of their sins they were drowned) by the flood in the life of the world, (then made to enter) in the hereafter (a fire. and they found they had no helpers in place of allah) they had no helpers to defend them against allah's chastisement.

Jalāl al-Dīn al-Maḥallī

تفسير : because of (mimmā: mā indicates a relative clause) their iniquities (khatāyāhum: a variant reading has khatī’ātihim) they were drowned, by the flood, then made to enter the fire, with which they were punished underwater after drowning. and they did not find for themselves besides, that is to say, other than, god any helpers, to protect them against the chastisement.

Sahl al-Tustari

تفسير : …they were drowned and then made to enter the fire…he said:they were drowned in bewilderment (ḥayra) [beyond the reach of] guidance (hudā), and so they were made to enter the hellfire. hence, god made disgrace (hawān) binding upon them, and lodged them in the abode of misery (dār al-shaqāʾ).his words, exalted is he:
