Verse. 959

٧ - ٱلْأَعْرَاف

7 - Al-A'raf

فَمَا كَانَ دَعْوٰىہُمْ اِذْ جَاۗءَہُمْ بَاْسُـنَاۗ اِلَّاۗ اَنْ قَالُوْۗا اِنَّا كُنَّا ظٰلِـمِيْنَ۝۵
Fama kana daAAwahum ith jaahum basuna illa an qaloo inna kunna thalimeena

And when Our punishment overtook them they had nothing to say except crying out: "We have indeed been sinners."

Tafseer

'Abdullāh Ibn 'Abbās / Muḥammad al-Fīrūzabādī

تفسير : (no plea) words (had they, when our terror) our punishment which destroyed them (came unto them, save that they said: lo! we were wrong-doers) idolaters.

Jalāl al-Dīn al-Maḥallī

تفسير : and their only plea, their [only] words, when our might came upon them, was to say, ‘we were evildoers indeed’.
