The literal meaning of Al-Mu’id is the restorer, who will reproduce us on the day of judgment.
The root word of Al-Mu’id is ayn-waw-dal (ع و د). It has the following classical Arabic connotations:
Allah-Al-Mu’id is the restorer of life. The one who will reproduce us on the day of resurrection.
In Surah Buroj verse 13, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) says:
إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ يُبْدِئُ وَيُعِيدُ
˹For He is undoubtedly the One Who originates and resurrects all.
On another occasion in the Quran, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) says that Allah created man, then he will die. Then, on the day of judgment, he will be reproduced. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) says that, indeed, it is easier for Allah to reproduce them again:
أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا۟ كَيْفَ يُبْدِئُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْخَلْقَ ثُمَّ يُعِيدُهُۥٓ ۚ إِنَّ ذَٰلِكَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ يَسِيرٌۭ
Have they not seen how Allah originates the creation and then resurrects it? That is certainly easy for Allah. (Quran-29:19)
Allah is Al-Mu’id. This name of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) is a gentle reminder for the believers, reminding them of the day of judgment. The name Al-Mu’id reminds us that this life is temporary and a test, we will be reproduced on the day of judgment and rewarded for our good and bad deeds. The day of judgment will be very strict. Our records will be presented in front of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى). This name is a soft reminder for us to re-check the direction of our lives. Are we really obeying Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى)? Or are we deluded by our Nafs (The Demented Heart)? Can we stand in front of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) on that heavy day? Allah says in the Quran:
يَوْمَ نَطْوِى ٱلسَّمَآءَ كَطَىِّ ٱلسِّجِلِّ لِلْكُتُبِ ۚ كَمَا بَدَأْنَآ أَوَّلَ خَلْقٍۢ نُّعِيدُهُۥ ۚ وَعْدًا عَلَيْنَآ ۚ إِنَّا كُنَّا فَـٰعِلِينَ ١٠٤
On that Day, We will roll up the heavens like a scroll of writings. Just as We produced the first creation, so shall We reproduce it. That is a promise binding on Us. We truly uphold our promises˺! (Quran-21:104)
Use the name Al-Mu’id in your daily prayers. Ask Allah-Al-Mu’id to show your heart the righteous path and help you achieve the purpose of this life. Purpose gives life meaning and direction. We all know that Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) has sent us to worship Him and prove Him our love and loyalty. Unfortunately, today, we are entrapped by technology and so many other tests (Fitnah’s) that we have forgotten our Holy purpose. We are running after worldly things without even realizing that our lives can end in a minute, and we will be answerable to Allah for our deeds. Allah says in the Quran:
كُلُّ نَفْسٍۢ ذَآئِقَةُ ٱلْمَوْتِ ۖ ثُمَّ إِلَيْنَا تُرْجَعُونَ
Every soul will taste death; then to Us, you will all be returned. (Quran 29:57)
It is high time to reflect on Where we are heading. This name of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) is a reminder for us to prepare for the afterlife and to stay committed to our Holy purpose so that we can please our Lord.
Read the name Al-Mu’id when you get upset because of worldly affairs so that your heart gets content that this is not the sole purpose of your life. All the names of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) are a source of hope and guidance for believers. Make your routine to recite this name of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) when your heart strives for materialistic things so that you can actually remember the afterlife. That one day, you will be dead, and then you will be reproduced on the day of judgment. On that day, you will be answerable to Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) for all your deeds. This is a potent reminder for believers to stay on the right track.
Remember Allah’s Al-Mu’id attribute in morning and evening dhikr. The purpose of this remembrance in the morning and night is to stay committed to our more significant purpose. Reflect upon this attribute of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) in the moments of solitude.
All the names of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) guide a believer and enlighten a ray of hope and love in his heart. The love for Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) is the most outstanding achievement. The purpose of life is to worship Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) and build a strong relationship with Him. Incorporating the name Al-Mu’id into our daily lives can help us achieve this purpose. This name will remind us that after death, we will be reproduced and presented in front of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى). This can help us to judge our actions and direct them according to the teachings of the Quran and Sunnah.
All the names of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) have particular virtues and blessings connected to them. In Islam, it is recommended to name children after the name of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى). But it is mandatory to add “Abdul” before the name of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى). The literal meaning of Abdul is the “servant or the slave of.” Naming the children this way helps them build a relationship with Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى).
The name of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) with the same meaning as Al-Mu’id is
Both of these names are often paired because these names complement each other. Al-Mubdi is the one who begins creation as an initiator with no role model. Al-Mubdi is the one who reproduces or repeats this process. In Surah Younas verse 34, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) clearly states these attributes for believers.
Say, "Are there of your 'partners' any who begins creation and then repeats it?" Say, "Allāh begins creation and then repeats it, so how are you deluded?"
Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) clearly mentions that He is the creator and the repeater. So do not get deluded. Stay on the righteous path and worship Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى).
Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) has mentioned His Al-Mu’id attribute in the Quran many times. It emphasizes that Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) wants us to ponder upon this and firm our beliefs that on the day of judgment, we will be reproduced. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) says in the Quran:
أَمَّن يَبْدَؤُا۟ ٱلْخَلْقَ ثُمَّ يُعِيدُهُۥ وَمَن يَرْزُقُكُم مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۗ أَءِلَـٰهٌۭ مَّعَ ٱللَّهِ ۚ قُلْ هَاتُوا۟ بُرْهَـٰنَكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ ٦٤
Or ask them, “Who originates the creation then resurrects it, and gives you provisions from the heavens and the earth? Is it another god besides Allah?” Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “Show me your proof, if what you say is true.” (Quran 27:64)
