General and beneficial rules have been taught by the beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) for the safety of Muslims. Many authentic ahadith resources have narrated the general rule mentioned below. Jabir (رضي الله عنه) described that the Prophet (ﷺ) advised keeping your children close to you during the night because the devil spreads out in the night (Sahih al-Bukhari 3280). In Sahih Muslim/1012, it is reported that the Prophet (ﷺ) has advised to cover vessels, tie up waterskins, and mention the name of Allah on them after maghrib. It helps to seek refuge from Satan.
Home & Family Duas
When evening descends, bring your children indoors for the devils scatter out at this hour. Then after the passing of an hour (the first hour) of the night, (you may) let them (the children) go. Close your doors while mentioning the Name of Allah, for the devil may not open a closed door. Fasten your waterskins mentioning the Name of Allah. Cover your eating vessels mentioning the Name of Allah even if you just put something over it, and extinguish your lamps.
Jabir (رضي الله عنه) reported that the Prophet (ﷺ) advised keeping children and livestock in the house after sunset. Because, at this time, Satan is wandering. There are several benefits of following these general rules outlined by the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), and the most important of them is liberation from Satan. As it is mentioned in the sahih ahadith, during the night, Satan wanders and can harm the kids, utensils, and livestock. Reading dua and taking measures can save us from Satan. Furthermore, by obeying the sunnah and following the hadith, we can get the pleasure of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى). Also, making this a part of our routine can save us from the harm of this world, such as theft and kidnapping. This dua also encourages us to remember Allah in every situation, especially when seeking refuge from Satan.
