Home & Family

Home and family are essential components of an Islamic social structure, and there are many masnoon duas that address this aspect. A home is declared a place of rest in the Islamic teachings, as mentioned in the 80th verse of Surah An-Nahl, "Allah has made your houses a repose." And what repose or rest means? 28th verse of Surah Ar-R’ad tells us, "Such are the ones who believe (in the message of the Prophet) and whose hearts find rest in the remembrance of Allah. Surely, in Allah's remembrance, do hearts find rest."

So, a home is a place where a Muslim finds rest, and rest is in the remembrance of Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى. That defines the role of a home in Islamic theology. Further, a home is also a place where one lives with his family. Hence, the Home and Family are interrelated. In this section, we have collected all the duas related to family and home from the most trusted and authentic sources. Transliteration and translation of these duas are available, along with the actual Arabic text. In addition to the English, you can also read the translation in your preferred language. All these specific duas are grouped into 14 different sub-sections based on the subject matter.

Benefits and Virtues of Reciting Home and Family Duas in Light of Quran and Sunnah

Islamic teachings give special importance to the home and family. Hence, there are many duas aimed at seeking protection and blessings for one's family and home in the Quran and Hadith. Every dua has general and specific benefits and virtues, and the same is true with the duas we recite for our home and family. Some of the most important benefits and virtues of duas for home and family are as follows:

Home and Family Duas Protects from Harm

Everyone seeks protection from evil and harm for their home and family, and dua is the best way to seek protection from all evil and harm. Allah has promised that He is always there to listen and accept one's prayer, as mentioned in the 60th verse of Surah Ghafir:

Translation - Your Lord said: "Pray to Me, and I will accept your prayers. Surely those who wax too proud to worship Me shall enter Hell, utterly abased."

Hadith, 1457 of Riyad as Salihin, speaks about the importance of Dua for protection from harm and evils.

Translation - 'Uthman bin 'Affan (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "He who recites three times every morning and evening: 'Bismillahil-ladhi la yadurru ma'as-mihi shai'un fil-ardi wa la fis-sama'i, wa Huwas-Sami'ul-'Alim (In the Name of Allah with Whose Name there is protection against every kind of harm in the earth or in the heaven, and He is the All-Hearing and All-Knowing),' nothing will harm him."

So, the supplication or dua seeking protection for your family from evils and all other harm is most likely to be accepted and rewarded by the Almighty Allah. The best dua for the protection of family and home is considered to be the throne verse or ayat al-kursi.

Home And Family Dua Brings Prosperity

The duas for home and family can bring happiness and financial stability. Here, the family is not just your immediate family; it includes the members of your extended family as well. Islam has given much importance to the financial help of close relatives who might be in need. Hadith 1844 of Sunan Ibn Majah narrates the importance of helping close relatives:

Translation - Salman bin Amir Dabbi narrated that the Messenger of Allah said: "Charity given to the poor is charity, and that given to a relative is two things: charity and upholding the ties of kinship."

Hence, Islam relates financial help to the nearest relatives as a fundamental responsibility of all Muslims. Its immediate impact reflects on the well-being of the entire family. The Supplications and duas play a vital role in the achievement of this goal.

Home And Family Duas Bring Relief From Illness

There are many specific duas in the list above that seek relief for your family from sickness or illness. The virtues and benefits of making dua for the family to get rid of illness are evident from the Hadith 2186 of Sahih Muslim

Translation - Abu Sa'id reported that Gabriel came to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and said: Muhammad, have you fallen ill? Thereupon he said: Yes. He (Gabriel) said: "In the name of Allah, I exorcise you from everything and safeguard you from every evil that may harm you and from the eye of a jealous one. Allah would cure you, and I invoke the name of Allah for you."

So, dua brings relief for your family from all types of illnesses, per the above-referred quote from the Hadith.

Home And Family Dua Protects From Evil Eyes And Reptiles

Prophet Muhammad ﷺ often used to make dua for his grandsons, Hassan and Husayn رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْهُ for their protection against all evil eyes and reptiles. So, it is an act of following Sunnah to make a dua for your family. It is also evidence that dua protects the family from evil eyes. Hadith 3371 of Sahih Al-Bukhari narrates this instance.

Translation - Narrated Ibn `Abbas: The Prophet (ﷺ) used to seek Refuge with Allah for Al-Hasan and Al-Husain and says: "Your forefather (i.e., Abraham) used to seek Refuge with Allah for Ishmael and Isaac by reciting the following: 'O Allah! I seek Refuge with Your Perfect Words from every devil and from poisonous pests and from every evil, harmful, envious eye.'
