Hadith number 1905 of Jami At-Tirmidhi.

11 Duas
Traveling is a necessity these days. Travel duas for different occasions and events are available in the Quran and Hadith. Every dua has its exclusive importance and carries enormous benefits. The importance of traveling is explained in the 46th verse of Surah Al-Hajj, as under.
Translation - Have they not journeyed in the land that their hearts might understand and their ears might listen? For indeed it is not the eyes that are blinded; it is rather the hearts in the breasts that are rendered blind.
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ advised to travel during the night time, as explained in the Hadith 964 of Riyad as-Salihin.
Translation - Anas (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "Keep to traveling by night because the earth is folded (traversed more easily) during the night."[Abu Dawud].
Every dua is aimed at seeking protection from the Almighty Allah against all evils and hardships. Traveling carries various risks, such as leaving home unattended, risking life and possessions during travel, and the risks associated with the mode of travel. So, the travel duas are specifically recited to seek protection from Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى from all possible risks. Hadith 1342 of Sahi Muslim explains how Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to seek the protection of Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى while starting a journey.
Translation - Ibn Umar (Allah be pleased with them) reported that whenever Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) mounted his camel while setting out on a journey, he glorified Allah (uttered Allah-o-Akbar) thrice and then said:
Hallowed is He Who subdued for us this (ride) and we were not ourselves powerful enough to use It as a ride, and we are going to return to our Lord. O Allah, we seek virtue and piety from Thee in this journey of ours and the act which pleaseth Thee. O Allah, lighten this journey of ours, and make its distance easy for us. O Allah, Thou art (our) companion during the journey, and guardian of (our) family. O Allah, I seek refuge with Thee from hardships of the journey, gloominess of the sights, and finding of evil changes in property and family on return. And he (the Holy Prophet) uttered (these words), and made this addition to them: We are returning, repentant, worshipping our Lord. and praising Him.
Traveling may involve many unforeseen happenings. Whether you are traveling by road or by air, the chances of an accident cannot be ruled out. Similarly, if traveling long distances, especially by self-driven vehicle, chances of a mishap are always there. Travel duas protect against all these possible risks. Hadith 3426 of Jami At-Tirmidhi teaches us how to seek the protection of Allah from all such risks and threats.
Translation - Anas bin Malik narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Whoever says – that is: when he leaves his house – 'In the Name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah, there is no might or power except by Allah (Bismillāh, tawakkaltu `alallāh, lā ḥawla wa lā quwwata illā billāh)' it will be said to him: 'You have been sufficed and protected,' and Shaitan will become distant from him."
Reciting duas at the start of a journey or during the journey avoids the hardships of traveling and provides ease and comfort for travelers. Traveling involves lots of discomfort and is often very tiring. By reciting a travel dua before starting the journey, the reciter gets the blessings of Allah, and their travel is much more likely to be easy and comfortable by the will and command of Allah.
Like any other Dua, the immediate impact of a travel dua is reflected in the behavior of the reciter. Reciting a travel dua absolves the traveler from all worries. He gets relaxed. He gets peace of heart and soul. His faith and trust are much enhanced, resulting in a positivity in his attitude.
Traveling may involve quite a few difficulties and problems for the travelers, but when they take refuge in the blessings of Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى by way of reciting a travel dua, it is much more likely that their journey will remain free of any mishaps.
