Dua after Returning from Travel

With the holiday season approaching, many Muslims will be travelling to and forth from their homes for work, study, pleasure, or Hajj & Umrah. Islam views travelling as a great deed if it is done with good intentions. In fact, travelling from one place to another is what historically led the glorious message of Islam to be spread all over the world. Travelling was also encouraged by the Prophet (ï·º) for his Ummah so they could expand their horizons spiritually and physically.

Especially in the globalized world of today where travelling has become highly accessible and convenient for everyone, people are travelling more than ever. However, travelling is a journey that comes with its set of risks and dangers. If you’re someone who has travelled and is returning from a journey, you must remember Allah as long as you come back home or back from wherever you were travelling from. As Muslims, we remember Allah in every good, pleasant, or dispersant time in our lives. So, whether your journey was peaceful or otherwise, praising and offering gratitude to Allah is still necessary.

Travel Duas

1

Allaahu 'Akbar, Allaahu 'Akbar, Allaahu 'Akbar. Laa 'ilaaha 'illallaahu wahdahu laa shareeka lahu, lahul-mulku, wa lahul-hamdu, wa Huwa 'alaa kulli shay 'in Qadeer, aayiboona, taa'iboona, 'aabidoona, lirabbinaa haamidoona, sadaqallaahu wa'dahu, wa nasara 'abdahu, wa hazamal-'ahzaaba wahdahu.

(Allah the Great, Allah the Great, Allah the Great.) None has the right to be worshiped but Allah alone, Who has no partner. His is the dominion and His is the praise, and He is Able to do all things. We return repentant to our Lord, worshiping our Lord, and praising our Lord. He fulfilled His Promise, He aided His slave, and He alone defeated the Confederates.

[Hisnul 217] [Bukhari 7/163, Muslim 2/980.]

Etiquettes of Reciting Dua after Returning from Travel

The Prophet (ï·º) informed that Allah would write ten Hasanaat (rewards) for whoever recites this dua ten times in the morning, along with giving him the reward equivalent to freeing ten slaves and protecting him from the devil. And the same reward will be met for whoever recites this in the evening, as reported in An-Nasa’i. Therefore, reciting this dua enables you to gain rewards from Allah and protection from the Shaytan. The dua is to be recited upon your return from your travel. You can recite it during your return journey or when arriving back at your original location.

FAQs:

If you’re starting a travelling journey, recite ‘’Subhana-alladhi sakh-khara la-na hadha wa ma kunna la-hu muqrinin. Wa inna ila Rabbi-na la munqalibun’’ which translates to ‘’Glory unto Him Who created this transportation, for us, though we were unable to create it on our own. And unto our Lord, we shall return.’’
Travelling is a deed encouraged in the Quran. It says in Surah Al-Aknabut: ‘’Say, [O Muhammad], “Travel through the land and observe how He began creation. Then Allah will produce the final creation. Indeed Allah, over all things, is competent’’ (29:20)
