There are a few moments in life that standout among the rest, and your wedding night is one of them. Prayer is not just for challenging and difficult situations, a Muslim must pray to Allah even in good times. Therefore, sy the prayer given below to ask Allah to bless the union and help the man benefit from the goodness that their partner can offer and save them from the evil. On the wedding night, Muslims utter a special Dua (prayer) addressing Allah in an appeal for everlasting love between the couple and a mutually respectful relationship in their married life.
The same dua can be offered when someone purchases an animal like a camel or goat. They may ask Allah to make that animal beneficial for them. In the case of adopting a new animal into one’s household, dua is modified to ask Allah’s blessings for the creature’s health and safety. Regardless of the context, this dua serves as a beacon of faith, guiding individuals toward fulfilling relationships and responsible stewardship of Allah's creations.
The dua is from a hadith of the prophet Muhammad recorded in Hisn al-Muslim 191, in which he said to recite the dua given below when anyone marries a woman or purchases a maid-servant. This supplication is recommended in Islam for a significant life event. It is a prayer where the individual seeks Allah's guidance and blessings for the goodness inherent in the person or companion they are bringing into their life. The prayer emphasises a request for protection from any potential harm associated with the individual acknowledging the divine role in the creation of both goodness and challenges.
Good Etiquette Duas
Allaahumma 'innee 'as'aluka khayrahaa wa khayra majabaltahaa 'alayhi wa 'a'oothu bika min sharrihaa wa sharri maajabaltahaa 'alayhi.
When any of you marries a woman or purchases a maid-servant then let him say: "O Allah, I ask You for the goodness of her and the goodness upon which You have created her, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of her and from the evil upon which You have created her". If you purchase a camel (animal) then take hold of the top of its hump and say the same.
For the Dua on the wedding night, it is recommended that the groom recite the dua upon entering the marital bed chamber for the first time. Standing facing qiblah and raising hands in supplication is the recommended posture. And for buying an animal, it can be said upon acquiring any animal, whether a pet or livestock. There is no specific requirement of posture; you can recite it while standing, sitting or even while holding the reins of the animal. One hadith mentions placing your hand on the hump of the camel while reciting the dua.
It is important to approach the dua with sincerity realising the dependence on Allah's blessings and thanking for the gifts granted. By reciting this dua with sincerity along with proper etiquette one might be able to make a stronger bondage with the spouse and animal as well as seek the blessings of Allah Ta'ala in the new adventures of life.
Reciting a dua on the wedding night enhances the spiritual significance of the occasion seeking Allah's blessings for enduring love and unity in the marital journey. This way, it creates mutual respect and understanding while upholding the sacredness of the institution of marriage under the care of Allah to promote spiritual growth.
Similarly, when it comes to an animal companion, like the owner, the dua asks Allah to bless them with good health and ensures kind stewardship towards the animal, and further enhances the owner and animal relationship. This dua is an indicator of Allah’s guidance and blessing in passing through new stages involving love and responsibilities.
