Located near Makkah, Muzdalifah is a plain-level field that falls between Mina and Arafat. Southeast of Mina, pilgrims spend the night of the 9th Dhul Hijjah and the second day of the hajj, collecting stones and preparing for the following rites and rituals of the hajj. Pilgrims spend the night under the sky by being constantly involved in praying and remembering their Lord.
Dua for remembrance at Muzdalifah while also praying nafl are significant acts of worship in the process of hajj that offer people moments of reflection and require their true and sincere efforts to seek forgiveness and Allah’s blessings (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى).
Hajj & Umrah Duas
Allaahu 'Akbar.(1)Laa 'ilaaha 'illallaah.(2)Allaahu 'Ahad.(3)
The Prophet (SAW) rode his camel, Al-Qaswa' (from Arafah), until he reached the sacred area (Al-Mash'aril-Haraam). Then he faced the Qiblah and invoked Allah, and repeatedly said:"Allah is the Most Great",(1)"There is none worthy of worship but Allah"(2) and"Allah is One".(3)He remained stationary until the sky became yellow with the dawn, and then pressed on before sunrise.
The etiquette of reciting dua for remembrance at Muzdalifa, which is considered pivotal, combines the Maghrib and Isha prayer. Taught to us by the Prophet Muhammad(ﷺ) as narrated by Ibn Umar and reported in Sahih al-Bukhari 1673, Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) offered the Maghrib and Isha prayers together at Jam (i.e., al-Muzdalifa) with a separate Iqama for each of them and did not offer any optional prayer in between them or after each of them.”
The benefits of making dua for remembrance at Muzdalifah extend to both worlds. While in this world and during the pilgrimage, one finds themselves connected to a greater community that is made based on brotherhood. No barriers of culture and linguistics remain as all gather for One lord.
There is a great reward for remembering Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) and reciting glorifications for Him as it is only through Him that one can find true peace and contentment in their heart. It is a reminder for one to strive in the way of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) and allows one to introspect on their actions.
Quran uses Dhikr as a word for remembrance, which is why Dhikr and remembrance are synonymous with each other.
Reading the Holy Quran and reflecting on the words of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) is one of the most important ways to increase remembrance. Think of Allah and actively try to remember Him at different times of the day.
