Witnessing death is a traumatic and heartbreaking experience. Still, death is the ultimate reality of life and marks the beginning of our journey of returning to Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى). Despite it being one of the most painful acts for a loved one when closing the eyes of the deceased, one should make dua in abundance for forgiveness and ease.
To Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى), we belong, and the end of this life means we begin our journey back to Him. With the death of a loved one or anyone in our circle, those around us are left with a mountain of grief to navigate through, and it also reminds us of the temporary nature of our lives.
Sickness & Death Duas
Allaahummaghfir li-fulanin (name of the person) warfa' darajatahu fil-mahdiyyeena, wakhlufhu fee 'aqibihi fil-ghaabireena , waghfir-lanaa wa lahu yaa Rabbal-'aalameena, wafsah lahu fee qabrihi wa nawwir lahu feehi.
O Allah, forgive (say the person's name) and elevate his station among those who are guided. Send him along the path of those who came before, and forgive us and him, O Lord of the worlds. Enlarge for him his grave and shed light upon him in it.
When closing the eyes of the deceased, do so with patience and gentleness and make constant supplication. It is marked as the final act of care and respect. When saying dua, recite verses that are for the forgiveness and peace of the deceased. Surah Fatiha, Surah Yasin, Surah Rahman, Ayat e Karima, and Darood are common tasbihat to be recited at this time. Make sure you are not crying out loud, but rather, you close the eyes of the deceased with patience. Other than reciting verses, also pray by expressing your love and regard for the deceased and pray for ease in their journey from this world to the next.
The benefit of this reaches the person who has left this world. Making dua when closing the eyes of the deceased will help them find peace and, by the will of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى), make the transition from this world to the next easier. Doing this will help them find tranquility and that you are sending them off with respect.
