Dua for One Offering a Drink or One Who Intended to Do That

The dua Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) gave to one offering a drink or to one who intended to do that, is narrated in Sahih Muslim, an authentic collection of hadiths. It is a beautiful sunnah that every Muslim must try to follow daily. One particular hadith from which the dua is sourced mentions an event narrated by Miqdad (رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْهُ). In summary, Miqdad (رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْهُ) and two other companions came to the company of Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) seeking some food and drinks since they were hungry. It was his habit to come during the night and greet (the people present there) in a manner that would not wake one in sleep but make one who was awake hear it. He would then go to the mosque and say the prayer, then go to the milk and drink it. One night, Miqdad (رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْهُ), under temptations given by Shaytan, drank the share of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) as well. The companion (رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْهُ) expected Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) to scold him, however, he (ﷺ) went on to say this dua. (Sahih Muslim 2055a). The hadith gives an example of the merciful nature of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), as well as narrates a wonderful sunnah for the Muslims to follow.
