Dua for When Breaking Fast in Someone’s Home

The dua for breaking fast in someone’s home is a beautiful piece of Sunnah, reported in several authentic hadiths. Islam is a way of living that teaches us little acts of worship throughout our day-to-day lives. Fasting is a habit of a good Muslim, and with fasting comes several instances where one should say dua to invoke blessings.

The dua for breaking fast in someone’s home was made by Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) when he visited someone while fasting and ended up breaking his fast at their house. It was narrated by Anas ibn Malik (رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْهُ) that Prophet Muhammad visited Sa'd ibn Ubaydah (رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْهُ) while he, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was fasting. He (ﷺ) brought bread and olive oil and after he broke his fast, he said, “'Aftara 'indakumus-saa'imoona, wa 'akala ta'aamakumul-'abraaru , wa sallat 'alaykumul-malaa'ikatu (With you, those who are fasting have broken their fast, you have fed those who are righteous, and the angels recite their prayers upon you).” This incident has been reported in Sunan Abi Dawud 3854 (Graded Sahih by Albani) and narrated by ‘Abdullah bin Zubair (رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْهُ) in Sunan Ibn Majah 1747 (Graded Sahih by Darussalam). A similar account is reported in Mishkat Al Masabih in the Book of Foods 4249.
