Rami al Jamarat, also known as stoning the devil, is an important and compulsory ritual in Hajj, and all pilgrims are to fulfill this rite by pelting stones at each of the pillars that symbolize the devil. Jamarat are located in Mina, and the pillars do not hold caged devils. Therefore, the stones symbolize negating the evil and turning away from it. These pillars are landmarks that represent the locations where the devil tried to stop Prophet Ibrahim (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) from fulfilling Allah’s commandments.
Located on the mountainside of Mina, Jamarah al Aqabah is the largest pillar. Followed by it is Jamarah ul Wusta, located between the largest and smallest pillar. The third and last Jamarat is Jamarat ul Sughra, the smallest pillar compared to the other two and located near Masjid Al-Khafy.

Allaahu 'Akbar.
The Prophet (SAW) said Allaahu 'Akbar (Allah is the Most Great) with each pebble he threw at the Three pillars. Then he went forward, stood facing the Qiblah and raised his hands and called upon Allah. That was after (stoning) the first and second pillar. As for the third, he stoned it and called out Allaahu 'Akbar with every pebble he threw, but when he was finished he left without standing at it (for supplications).
According to the practice of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), after throwing stones at the first two pillars, he went forward, faced the Qiblah raised his hands looking at it, and made supplication [Hisn al-Muslim 239].Reciting dua when throwing each pebble at the jamarat involves reciting Bismillah and then saying takbeer. When pelting stones, one must not do it with such a force that it could hit or harm anyone in the process, as around the time of rami, the place is crowded, and most people have to pelt stones from afar.
The benefit of making dua when throwing each pebble at the Jamarat is that it makes one understand that their faith and obedience to Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) should be greater than the temptations of this temporary world. Throwing pebbles reinforces one’s responsibility to adhere to the commands of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) and negate the devil in all forms.
Fulfilling the practice of Rami is an opportunity to express their allegiance to Allah and negate any evil in the world. This practice instills in one the need to express their devotion to Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) and seek guidance and strength to stay righteous.
Takbir – Allah u Akbar is recited when each pebble is thrown at the Jamarat.
Pilgrims collect stones in Muzdalifah and at each Jamarat, 7 stones are pelted.
