(449) بَابُ مَنْ بَدَأَ بِالسَّلامِ

(449) Chapter: The person who greets first

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، وَالْقَعْنَبِيُّ، قَالاَ: أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ، عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ: لاَ يَحِلُّ لِامْرِئٍ مُسْلِمٍ أَنْ يَهْجُرَ أَخَاهُ فَوْقَ ثَلاَثٍ، فَيَلْتَقِيَانِ فَيُعْرِضُ هَذَا وَيُعْرِضُ هَذَا، وَخَيْرُهُمَا الَّذِي يَبْدَأُ بِالسَّلامِ.


Abu Ayyub reported that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah blesshim and grant him peace, said, "It is not lawful for a Muslim man to separatehimself from his brother for more than three days. When they meet, andone turns away and the other turns away, the better of them is the onewho gives the greeting first."
