٣٧ - ٱلصَّافَّات

37 - As-Saffat

وَيَقُوْلُوْنَ اَىِٕنَّا لَتَارِكُوْۗا اٰلِـہَتِنَا لِشَاعِرٍ مَّجْــنُوْنٍ۝۳۶ۭ
Wayaqooloona ainna latarikoo alihatina lishaAAirin majnoonin

And said: "Should we abandon our gods for the sake of an insane poet?"

Tafseer

'Abdullāh Ibn 'Abbās / Muḥammad al-Fīrūzabādī

تفسير : (and said: shall we forsake our gods) shall we leave the worship of our gods (for a mad poet) who invents lies? meaning the prophet muhammad (pbuh).

Jalāl al-Dīn al-Maḥallī

تفسير : and would say, ‘are we to abandon our gods for a mad poet?’, that is, for the sake of what muhammad (s) says? (as regards the hamzas [in a-innā, ‘are we’], the same applies as mentioned above).
