He looked down and saw (his friend) in the midst of Hell.

Tafseer
'Abdullāh Ibn 'Abbās / Muḥammad al-Fīrūzabādī
تفسير : (then looketh he and seeth him) and sees his disbelieving brother (in the depth of hell) in the middle of hell.
Jalāl al-Dīn al-Maḥallī
تفسير : then he, that speaker, will take a look, through one of the apertures in paradise, and he will catch sight of him, that is, he will see his comrade, in the centre of hell, in the middle of the fire.
