٤٠ - غَافِر

40 - Ghafir

وَيُرِيْكُمْ اٰيٰتِہٖ۝۰ۤۖ فَاَيَّ اٰيٰتِ اللہِ تُنْكِرُوْنَ۝۸۱
Wayureekum ayatihi faayya ayati Allahi tunkiroona

He shows His signs. How many of God's signs will you then deny?

Tafseer

'Abdullāh Ibn 'Abbās / Muḥammad al-Fīrūzabādī

تفسير : (and he showeth you) o people of mecca (his tokens) his marvels: the sun, the moon, the stars, the day, the night, the mountains, the clouds, the seas, etc., all these are signs of allah. (which, then, of the tokens) of the signs (of allah do ye deny) and claim is not from allah?

Jalāl al-Dīn al-Maḥallī

تفسير : and he shows you his signs. so which of god’s signs, that is, [the signs] that prove his oneness, do you reject? (the interrogative here is meant as a rebuke; ayya, ‘which of’ is more commonly made masculine than feminine).

Sahl al-Tustari

تفسير : and he shows you his signs; then which of the signs of god do you reject?he said:god, exalted is he, has made his signs (āyāt) manifest to his friends (awliyāʾ), and he has made happy those among his servants who believe in them, [affirming the truth of] their charismatic gifts (karāmāt). however, he has made the eyes of the damned blind to seeing them, and has turned their hearts away from him. whoever denies the charismatic gifts of the friends [of god] denies the omnipotence of god, exalted is he. for the omnipotence [of god] manifests [itself] at the hand of the friends [of god], and they cannot by themselves cause their manifestation, in accordance with his words and he shows you his signs; then which of the signs of god do you reject?his words:
