We have not created the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, out of play.

'Abdullāh Ibn 'Abbās / Muḥammad al-Fīrūzabādī
تفسير : (and we created not the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them) of creation, (in play) in amusement.
Jalāl al-Dīn al-Maḥallī
تفسير : and we did not create the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, [intending] to play, by creating all that (lā‘ibīna, ‘to play’, is a circumstantial qualifier).
