٥٣ - ٱلنَّجْم

53 - An-Najm

مَا زَاغَ الْبَصَرُ وَمَا طَغٰى۝۱۷
Ma zagha albasaru wama tagha

Tafseer

'Abdullāh Ibn 'Abbās / Muḥammad al-Fīrūzabādī

تفسير : (the eye turned not aside) the sight of muhammad (pbuh) did not turn right or left because of what he saw (nor yet was overbold) due to what he saw; he saw that gabriel had 600 wings.

Jalāl al-Dīn al-Maḥallī

تفسير : the eye did not swerve, on the part of the prophet (s), nor did it go beyond [the bounds], that is to say, his gaze did not turn away from the object of vision designated for it, nor did it go beyond that [object] on that night.

Sahl al-Tustari

تفسير : the eye did not swerve, nor did it go beyond [the bounds].he did not incline to the evidences of his self (shawāhid nafsihi), nor to witnessing them (mushāhadatihā), but was totally absorbed in the witnessing (mushāhada) of his lord, exalted is he, seeing (shāhid) the attributes [of god] that were being manifested [to him], which required firmness from him in that place (maḥall).
