Verse. 5348

٦٩ - ٱلْحَاقَّة

69 - Al-Haqqa

وَاَمَّا مَنْ اُوْتِيَ كِتٰبَہٗ بِشِمَالِہٖ۝۰ۥۙ فَيَقُوْلُ يٰلَيْتَنِيْ لَمْ اُوْتَ كِتٰبِيَہْ۝۲۵ۚ
Waamma man ootiya kitabahu bishimalihi fayaqoolu ya laytanee lam oota kitabiyah

But whosoever gets his ledger in his left hand, will say: "Would that I were never given my ledger,

Tafseer

'Abdullāh Ibn 'Abbās / Muḥammad al-Fīrūzabādī

تفسير : (but as for him who is given his record in his left hand) this refers to al-aswad ibn 'abd al-asad, the brother of abu salamah who was a disbeliever, (he will say: oh, would that i had not been given my book) this book of mine

Jalāl al-Dīn al-Maḥallī

تفسير : but as for him who is given his book in his left hand, he will say, ‘o (yā is for calling attention [to something]) would that i had not been given my book,

Sahl al-Tustari

تفسير : but as for him who is given his book in his left hand, he will say, ‘would that i had not been given my book.’that is, because of the foul deeds (aʿmāl khabītha) and disbelief (kufr) contained within it, he wishes that he had never been resurrected and says:
