Verse. 6113

٩٦ - ٱلْعَلَق

96 - Al-Alaq

اَنْ رَّاٰہُ اسْتَغْنٰى۝۷ۭ
An raahu istaghna

Ahmed Ali

For he thinks he is sufficient in himself.

'Abdullāh Ibn 'Abbās / Muḥammad al-Fīrūzabādī

تفسير : (that he thinketh himself independent) of allah because of his wealth!

Jalāl al-Dīn al-Maḥallī

تفسير : when he sees it, that is to say, his own soul, to be self-sufficient, in terms of wealth — this was revealed regarding abū jahl (ra’ā, ‘sees’, means [to see] mentally; istaghnā, ‘self-sufficient’, is the second direct object; an ra’āhu, ‘when he sees it’, is an object denoting reason).
