Tafseer

'Abdullāh Ibn 'Abbās / Muḥammad al-Fīrūzabādī

تفسير : (say: can ye see yourselves) o people of mecca, (if the punishment of allah come upon you unawares) suddenly (or openly? would any perish) through such a punishment (save wrong-doing folk?) who disobey that with which they have been commanded; it is also said that this refers to the idolaters.

Jalāl al-Dīn al-Maḥallī

تفسير : say, to them: ‘have you considered for yourselves, if god’s chastisement were to come upon you, suddenly or openly?, at night or during the day; would any be destroyed, except the evildoing, the unbelieving, folk?’ that is to say, none but these will be destroyed.
