'Abdullāh Ibn 'Abbās / Muḥammad al-Fīrūzabādī

تفسير : and on his authority from ibn 'abbas who said concerning allah's saying (alif. lam mim. sad) allah says: i am allah who knows best and is best; it is also said that this is an oath by which allah swore.

Jalāl al-Dīn al-Maḥallī

تفسير : alif lām mīm sād: god knows best what he means by these [letters].

Sahl al-Tustari

تفسير : alif lām mīm Ṣād[sahl said]:this means, ‘i am god, i divide up (afṣilu) my servants with truth.’ from these letters is produced the name of god, exalted is he: al-Ṣamad (the self-sufficing, the one who is eternally-besought-of-all). his words, exalted is he:
