The month of Ramadan brings with it an opportunity for every believer to seek forgiveness from Allah Almighty for big and small sins done knowingly or unknowingly. Ramadan is split into three ashras: the ashra of blessings, the ashra of seeking the forgiveness of Allah, and the ashra of Nijaat from hellfire. The second Ashra starts on the 10th night and ends on the night of the 20th of Ramadan. These 10 days offer a unique chance for the entire Ummah to pray for their forgiveness and the forgiveness of their loved ones. It is recommended that Muslims recite duas to seek the forgiveness of Allah in kasrat, i.e., abundance, during the middle 10 days of the month of Ramadan.
Read the dua recommended to seek forgiveness of Allah in its original Arabic text and English translation below. The dua focuses on repentance from the sins committed and asking Allah to guide us to remain on the right path. This means you ask Allah to forgive what you did, you are ashamed of your wrongdoings, and you never wish to do any of the previous acts again. You accept that you were at fault, and it is only Allah who has the authority to forgive you and guide you towards the right path.
The middle 10 days of the month of Ramadan are called the ashra of Maghfirah (forgiveness from Allah). In these 10 days, Muslims should focus their ibadah on seeking forgiveness from Allah for their sins and wrongdoings. Asking for forgiveness is not only to get exemption from the hellfire, but it is done to achieve better health, wealth, pious children, pious spouses, and rizq halal.
One main thing we need to do along with making dua for forgiveness is to seek forgiveness from those whom we have wronged. When a person we wronged at any time forgives us, Allah also forgives us. It is equally important for us to forgive those who have wronged us. When we forgive others, Allah forgives us for our sins.
One great way to attain forgiveness along with making dua is to give sadqa in abundance. Charity can be in any form, be it help or money, or both. Prophet (S.A.W) said, “Sadaqa is due on every joint of a person, every day the sun rises. Administering of justice between two men is also a Sadaqa. And assisting a man to ride upon his beast, or helping him load his luggage upon it, is a Sadaqa; and a good word is a Sadaqa; and every step that you take towards prayer is a Sadaqa, and removing of harmful things from the pathway is a Sadaqa.” (Sahih Al-Muslim Book 12 Hadith 72)
